About Kadıköy

Kadıköy is a large, densely populated and cosmopolitan district on the Asian side of Istanbul. What makes its importance is the location, which is the entrance to the Bosphorus, has modern transportation facilities with railway network and highways. Kadıköy region is located on the shore of the Marmara Sea and the Bosphorus, it has the characteristics typical of coastal districts. It is an attractive area because it has many facilities such as transportation, cinemas, theatres, art galleries, sports clubs and important universities. Kadıköy is home to many students as well as a few foreign residents. It is a busy shopping district, with a wide variety of atmospheres and architectural styles. The streets are full of cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as many crafted shops. Along the coast, away from the center of Kadıköy, there are many expensive shops, and the area is becoming more and more luxurious in neighborhoods such as Moda and Fenerbahce, which are attractive and prestigious residential areas. Moda is generally considered one of the more pleasant residential districts in the city. Kadıköy is also famous with its long shopping street named Bağdat Caddesi (Baghdad Avenue), which includes many fancy restaurants, Cafe, and luxury shops. Kadıköy has many houses from the Ottoman era and some from the Roman era. Some have been converted into cafes, bars and restaurants, and the rest are awaiting restoration.
